An elevator call button or hall lantern box penetrates a shaft wall constructed with shaft wall studs and 1-inch gypsum liner panels. A twenty-two gauge steel strip measuring six by twelve inches minimum is installed behind boxes where liner panels are cut and removed. An additional one-inch gypsum liner box protection is provided, extending a minimum of four inches on each side as scheduled.
