A stair handrail is mounted along a stair run with specific height and extension requirements. The top of the handrail gripping surface is positioned at a height of three feet above the stair nosing and landing surfaces. Handrail extensions continue horizontally for one foot minimum at the top and bottom of the stair run. The handrail returns to the wall or walking surface at each end. Intermediate brackets secure the handrail to the adjacent wall construction.
