A vertical trash chute passes through a rated shaft with zero physical contact to adjacent walls or floor assemblies to prevent acoustic transmission. The chute is coated with a minimum three-sixteenths inch thickness of Soundcoat GP-1 or Peabody Kinetics KDC-E-162 damping material. Support structures rest on three-quarter inch neoprene acoustic supports positioned above floor slabs. A one-quarter inch gap with one-half inch permanently resilient caulking separates the intake opening from the rated wall assembly.
