The head condition of a hollow metal door frame is set below exterior metal stud framing and glass-mat gypsum sheathing board. A weather-resistant barrier wraps the exterior sheathing down to a flashing at the frame intersection. Insulation fills the metal stud framing per energy calculations, bounded on the interior by an outline of future finish. Shims are placed as required between the rough opening and the door frame header, with backer rod and sealant applied at the exterior joint.
