A call button box is recessed into a wall assembly faced with either two layers of 1/2-inch gypsum board for a two-hour rating or one layer of 5/8-inch gypsum board for a one-hour rating. The assembly is backed by a 1-inch gypsum shaft liner board reinforced with a 25-gauge steel strip measuring at least 6 by 12 inches. Minimum clearances include 4 inches and 5 inches around the box installation. The assembly integrates electrical devices into fire-rated shaft walls and partitions.
