Perennial and groundcover planting beds require roto-tilling to a minimum depth of twelve inches, with existing soil amended with composted organic matter to achieve a five percent dry weight organic content. Plastic containers must be removed from the root ball prior to placement in the planting pit. Install a soil moisture retention additive in the planting pit at manufacturer-specified rates, topped with a three-inch mulch layer. Contractors must ensure proper percolation of all planting areas prior to installation.
