Wide flange beams connect to an HSS column using bolted shear plates and a three-eighths-inch cap plate at the roof level. Shear tabs are one-half inch thick typically, with three-eighths-inch plates required for W8 and W10 beams, while bolt sizing and quantities are per the engineering schedule. Gusset plates are slotted equally, fitted together, and welded. A one-quarter-inch fillet weld secures the connection details.
