Where the wall contains only a tile base, a cementitious backer unit is installed behind the tile base with moisture-resistant gypsum board above. A waterproof membrane extends up the face of the wallboard to a point just below the top of the base tile. The assembly transitions down to a concrete floor slab with framing anchored in place.
