Trench excavation parallel to a foundation footing requires maintaining specified slope ratios of two horizontal to one vertical to prevent cave-ins. The contractor is responsible for shoring, sheathing, or maintaining the excavation sides until backfill is completed per specifications. The bottom of the trench excavation must not extend below the indicated line, maintaining a minimum ten-foot clearance from the footing. Backfill requires compacted fill placed to ninety percent density.
