A one-and-a-half-inch diameter hollow structural section handrail is secured to a wall using a half-inch by two-inch diameter circular steel plate. The plate connects to masonry via two three-eighths-inch expansion anchors, or to a backing plate using three-eighths-inch lag bolts, or via a welded connection to rail posts. The support rod consists of a three-eighths-inch diameter stainless steel rod spaced at eight feet on center. Welds are specified as three-sixteenth-inch and ground smooth. Rail ends must have a minimum one-and-a-half-inch return to the wall with mitered corners.
