A non-rated interior partition head terminates below a structural steel beam supporting an existing concrete over metal deck. The steel beam is protected with spray-applied fireproofing, and a sixteen-gauge metal Z partition attachment clip is secured perpendicular to the beam flange using three Hilti X-U fifteen powder-actuated fasteners at twenty-four inches on center. Number ten self-tapping screws at twenty-four inches on center fasten the Z clip to a deflection track featuring two-and-a-half-inch legs. Number ten sheet metal screws secure the deflection track to each wall stud on both sides. Batt insulation fills the stud cavity, and gypsum board is fastened only to the studs below the deflection track per project notes.
