A millwork portal assembly features a quartz countertop resting above a continuous void space and plywood backing with veneer exposed faces. The countertop meets a one-half-inch blackened metal frame with hairline joints welded and ground smooth. Hollow structural section supports sized per plan carry the metal frame and trim components. Continuous wood blocks from four species of wood with no visible joints finish the vertical wall surfaces below the counter edge.
