This fire-rated assembly encloses a structural hollow structural section square column with a minimum size of 8 by 8 by 0.250 inches. Cold-formed steel metal studs with a minimum depth of 41 millimeters or 1 5/8 inches frame the column perimeter. A single layer of 16-millimeter or 5/8-inch Type X gypsum board is applied vertically without horizontal joints to complete the enclosure. Metal corner beads protect the exterior corners of the gypsum board wrap.
