A feature stair handrail connection assembly consists of a 1-1/2-inch diameter steel pipe handrail supplied by vendor 1, an internal 1/2-inch diameter steel rod welded to a recessed round plate, and a 1-1/4-inch Schedule 40 steel pipe return post. The vendor end-bores a 9/16-inch diameter hole 3-1/2 inches deep into the steel handrail to slip over the protruding steel rod. Countersunk set screws installed in the underside of the handrail secure it to the internal steel rod. A 1/2-inch diameter bent rod with a rolled plate bracket supports the handrail assembly against the stair structure. A wood guardrail surmounts the assembly with a 4-inch maximum spacing maintained to meet safety codes. All exposed steel elements receive a powder coat finish matching the stringer cladding.
