The sprinkler pipe penetrates the ceiling assembly, which consists of gypsum board as scheduled. A one-quarter inch annular space around the pipe is filled with a backer rod and sealed airtight using acoustical sealant. An escutcheon plate is installed at the ceiling surface to conceal the penetration around the sprinkler head.
