A 3 5/8-inch by 16-gauge cold-formed steel stud joist spans up to 8'-0" around a ceiling obstruction, stabilized by a compression strut secured with three number 10 sheet metal screws. The assembly connects to a 3 5/8-inch by 18-gauge track using three number 10 sheet metal screws to each stud across a minimum span of two studs. Hanger wires with saddle tie hangers support the joist parallel to the obstruction, complemented by splay wires or stud braces tied back to the wall or roof structure. Counter sloping wires with a minimum pitch of 1 in 6 out of plumb provide lateral stability.
