A skewed shear plate is welded to the web of a wide-flange column to receive a skewed framing beam. A three-quarter-inch plate matching the depth of the skewed shear plate is welded at the column web as a stiffener, though it is not required at box columns. Five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds secure the connection typically on each side. Beam flanges are coped for clearances as required.
