This assembly provides a two-hour fire rating for a steel column using one or two layers of 5/8-inch Type X gypsum board. The gypsum is supported by 2-1/2-inch metal furring channels or approved metal column furring clips. An extra layer of gypsum board is applied at the upper section to meet the two-hour rating requirement. Corner beads are installed at exposed edges where no adjacent walls exist. Fire sealant is applied at the base of the rated wall assembly at the finished floor. The detail accommodates a column splice level and accounts for a four-foot high structural pedestal.
