A rated interior wall terminates at a metal deck with a one-inch deflection space beneath the deflection channel, leaving studs and gypsum board unfastened to the runner. Type X gypsum board is applied to each side of the metal studs spaced at sixteen inches on center, attached one inch below the deflection channel. Fire safing insulation is installed on each side of the wall, overlapping the deck and gypsum board by a minimum of one inch with a clean joint provided at exposed locations.
