An underground gate valve on a PVC mainline is supported by a concrete thrust block anchored with number four rebar bent over the valve body. A vertical eight-inch PVC pipe surrounds the gate valve, backfilled with four inches of pea gravel with no soil inside the box. The entire assembly is enclosed by a ten-inch round plastic valve box with a bolt-down lid, set flush with the finish grade in lawn areas or one inch above in shrub and groundcover areas. Two total bricks provide side support beneath the flared base of the valve box.
