These architectural details show the head-of-wall connection for metal stud partitions beneath concrete slabs and fluted steel decks. A continuous twenty-two gauge minimum three-inch deep leg deflection track is attached to the overhead deck at twelve inches on center maximum. The gypsum board and studs are left unattached to the deflection track in the specified clearance area to accommodate slab movement. A continuous two-inch wide by twenty-two gauge metal strap provides top attachment for the studs at eight inches on center maximum. Mineral wool insulation fills the gap between the slab and the top of the wall, and spray-applied firestop material is applied to each side with a minimum half-inch overlap onto the gypsum board and deck where required.
