Two wide-flange beams sized per plan connect end-to-end with a 1-inch maximum gap. Flanges are joined by a complete-penetration flange-to-flange weld. A three-quarter-inch thick shear plate is welded with a nine-sixteenth-inch fillet weld on three sides. Three seven-eighth-inch diameter erection bolts are installed in horizontal long slotted holes at the shear plate. A gusset plate occurs where indicated by dashed lines.
