A fire hydrant connects via solid grade spools and mechanical or flanged joints to a gate valve and flanged hydrant tee. Concrete thrust blocks support the piping bends and gate valve against soil pressure, with a concrete anchor block positioned near the surface. A break-off check valve of type LB 400 or equal is installed along the vertical barrel. The hydrant pumper outlet faces the street, maintaining a center clearance between twenty-four and thirty inches above the finished grade. A standard valve box with a tracer wire sits over the gate valve, accompanied by a blue reflector marker at the road centerline.
