A typical steel stair guardrail and handrail assembly mounts to an HSS stair stringer. The assembly features one and one-half inch outside diameter steel pipe railings and handrails supported by one-half inch steel flat bar handrail supports. Intermediate steel pipes at the stair and landing align vertically with a maximum clear spacing of under four inches. The railing post is welded to an existing plate stringer with connections welded and ground smooth, and provided with welded end caps. Anchors are specified as Hilti KB expansion anchors with diameter and spacing sized by the design stair manufacturer.
