A five-eighths inch gypsum board cant strip is installed at elevator hoistway projections exceeding five-eighths of an inch, maintaining a minimum seventy-five degree angle. Two-and-a-half-inch metal studs spaced at twenty-four inches on center are provided behind the cant when the cant length exceeds twenty-four inches. Continuous two-inch by two-inch by twenty-gauge metal angles anchor the assembly at the top and bottom against a gypsum liner panel partition. A four-inch dimension controls the projection clearance above the concrete substrate.
