A galvanized steel channel beam (C12x20.7 or equal) is supported by a galvanized hollow structural section (HSS 4x4x3/8) steel column with a 1/2-inch thick cap plate. The beam connects to the support via a 3/8-inch by 3-1/2-inch by 9-inch shear plate secured with three 3/4-inch diameter A-325-N bolts, welded with 5/16-inch fillet welds. Intermediate stair landing columns may be continuous with diagonal angle bracing (L3x3x1/4) and frame into the column with clip angles.
