This fire-rated control joint detail utilizes twin cold-formed metal studs placed back-to-back at the partition break with a maximum one-half inch gap. Two layers of five-eighths inch Type X gypsum board attach to the back side of each metal stud, augmented by an additional layer on both sides to achieve a two-hour fire rating. Acoustic insulation fills the cavity between studs as required by the partition type, while proprietary fire-rated control joint profiles seal the surface on both faces.
