Handrails are required on both sides of ramps and must be continuous for the full length of the ramp. Handrails extend twelve inches minimum beyond the top and bottom with returned ends and maintain a minimum one and one-half inch clear space between the handrail and building. The handrail tubing measures one and one-half inches in diameter, is primed and painted per specifications, and requires all welds to be ground smooth with pits filled as required. The handrail must resist two hundred and fifty pounds per square foot in any direction and must not rotate within fittings.
