An HSS 4x4x5/16 column bears on an HSS 6x6x1/4 tube that extends into a concrete footing. A closure plate caps the larger tube, secured with a 3/16-inch fillet weld. Four 1/2-inch diameter by 4-inch long welded studs are anchored to the embedded tube within the concrete. The concrete footing measures 24 inches square or in diameter and supports a finish slab.
