A wide-flange beam frames into a hollow structural section column utilizing a shear plate and top and bottom continuity plates. The connection features a shear plate bolted to the beam web with four bolts, complemented by five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds and complete joint penetration welds at the flanges. Continuity plates match the width of the column and have a thickness equal to the thickest beam flange plus one-eighth inch. A one-half-inch minimum clearance is provided typically at the column face. Field welds and bolt requirements are referenced to the structural schedule.
