About this detail

An elevated bridge or walkway assembly is constructed with a U-shape precast concrete exterior element framing primary and secondary steel beams with internal bracing. The structural slab consists of concrete on metal deck, installed after the precast element with adjustable top connections that require welding the angle in place, shimming as needed, and bolting into slotted holes. Embed plates cast into the precast concrete tie into the framing, while adjustable base connections are provided at the lower supports if needed by the precast supplier. A glass guardrail is seated in a base shoe anchored directly into the top of the precast element, with the base connection installed before the deck. The walking surface features 2-inch pavers supported on pedestals above the structural slab. Steel beams are fireproofed at their ends where they enter the building structure.
