An unpunched backing channel consisting of a six-inch sixteen-gauge track spans horizontally across vertical metal studs sized per architectural plans. The backing channel is notched over the studs and extends longer than the supporting item by one stud space at each end with a minimum of three studs. Three number ten sheet metal screws connect the backing channel to each stud typically, noted as ten SMS typical unparsed on the detail. Supporting studs for the wall-hung item must be a minimum of sixteen gauge. A note references the anchorage schedule on sheet S4.0 for maximum allowable loads to be applied to the backing channel.
