A solid wood countertop projects past the supporting cabinet framing with a one-and-a-half-inch thickness dimensioned above a cabinet door or drawer. A one-inch clearance is provided between the cabinet face and the interior edge of the countertop overhang. The countertop material may be butcher block or solid wood.
