A recessed accessory is installed within a framed gypsum board partition. Smaller studs or channels are utilized to achieve the required recess depth, with additional layers of Type X gypsum board added per the fire rating schedule. Gypsum board is continued inside the recess with corner tape and mud applied at all penetrations. A one-inch minimum acoustic separation is maintained and filled with batt insulation. Acoustic sealant is applied for non-rated acoustic walls, while firestop sealant is used for fire-rated assemblies.
