A painted one and a half inch outer diameter standard steel pipe handrail is supported by one and a quarter inch outer diameter standard steel elbow supports spaced at a maximum of six feet on center. The elbow connects to a three-eighths inch thick by four-inch diameter steel mounting plate. For concrete or masonry walls, the assembly is anchored using two three-eighths inch diameter metal expansion anchors. For stud walls, the plate is secured with two three-eighths inch lag screws fastened to required two-by-ten treated wood blocking. The handrail maintains a height of thirty-four inches to the stair nosing and a one and a half inch minimum clearance from the wall surface.
