About this detail

A buckling-restrained braced frame connection occurs at a steel column and girder intersection. A three-bolt gusset plate connects to the underside of the girder per plan, supported by a gusset plate required by the manufacturer. Top and bottom flange plates measuring five-eighths inch minimum and three-quarters inch minimum respectively weld to the column and girder. Horizontal column stiffeners match the flange plate thickness and utilize either a five-eighths times stiffener thickness weld or complete joint penetration weld. A three-eighths inch doubler plate fits between the stiffeners and column flanges. Nondestructive testing including magnetic particle and ultrasonic testing is specified for the seismic force-resisting system joints.
