The root ball sits on an undisturbed soil platform with the crown positioned three inches above finished grade, surrounded by a planting mixture and a three-inch soil saucer with three inches of mulch. The pit diameter measures twice the root ball diameter, with roughened sides and a minimum twelve-inch clearance at the base. Burlap is cut away from the top one-third of the root ball. Two-inch by two-inch by eight-foot minimum support posts are driven at an angle and drawn vertical, secured with flexible strap tree ties at each post.
