The base of a fire-rated shaftwall is constructed with metal stud framing anchored to a CLT deck or concrete floor slab. Acoustical insulation fills the stud cavity as required by the partition type. An additional layer of gypsum board is applied to each side to achieve a two-hour fire rating. A metal runner track attaches directly to the deck. Flexible firestop sealant fills the full depth of the gypsum board on both sides, maintaining a one-quarter-inch minimum to one-half-inch maximum joint tolerance.
