Cold-formed steel stud tracks attach to structural overhead supports using two distinct connection details. The first assembly connects the track to a wide flange beam using a 16-gauge Z-clip measuring 2 inches by 2 inches by 2 inches by 4 inches long. The Z-clip is welded to the underside of the beam flange with a one-eighth-inch fillet weld, and the stud track secures to the Z-clip using two number 8 self-drilling screws spaced at 2 feet on center and 2 inches from each end, with a one-inch pad inserted between elements. The second assembly connects the stud track directly to a cast-in-place concrete substrate using a matching pad and screw configuration.
