A structural steel beam is wrapped in one layer of gypsum wallboard panels to achieve a one-hour fire rating per UL Design X528. Seven-eighth-inch furring channels support the drywall assembly beneath the beam bottom flange. One-and-one-quarter-inch leg corner beads finish the exterior corners and are fastened to the wallboard using number six by one-inch screws.
