An HSS brace member connects to a five-eighths-inch gusset plate slotted and welded into an HSS column, with a three-eighths-inch fillet weld at the brace-to-gusset interface. A W-beam frames into the column flange using a shear plate fastened with six seven-eighths-inch-diameter bolts, and bears beneath a three-quarter-inch plate secured with bolts. Three-eighths-inch stiffener plates are welded to the column web with one-quarter-inch fillet welds. A three-eighths-inch fillet weld secures the gusset plate assembly to the supporting members.
